My treatment

Below is my treatment history following diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer in February 2012.

March – May 2012
Four cycles of EC chemotherapy.  Scans revealed no change to cancer.

May – September 2012
Six cycles of Docetaxel (Taxotere) chemotherapy.  Scans revealed no change to cancer.

June 2012
Commenced three weekly infusions of Herceptin.  This continued until June 2013 when I started a chemo which includes Herceptin.

October 2012
Started taking Tamoxifen.  Stopped in April 2013 as no longer working.

February 2013
Left side mastectomy and axillary node clearance.

April 2013
Fifteen days radiotherapy.  At this time discovered that lung mets had grown.  Stopped Tamoxifen. 

May 2013
Sought second opinion and was advised to try a trial chemo TDM1 (trial in UK, already in use in USA). 

June 2013
Started three weekly infusions of trial chemo TDM1.


September 2013
CT scan revealed some shrinkage of lung mets.  Continue with chemo (TDM1).

December 2013
CT scan revealed further shrinkage of lung mets.  Continue with chemo (TDM1).

February 2014
CT scan revealed no change in cancer.  Continue with chemo (TDM1).

May 2014
CT scan revealed no change in cancer.  Continue with chemo (TDM1). 

August 2014
CT scan revealed no change in cancer.  Continue with chemo (TDM1). 

November 2014
CT scan revealed growth in lung mets and cancer now also spread to liver.  Cease TDM1.

December 2014
Start new chemo - capecitabine and lapatinib. 

February 2015
CT scan revealed no change in cancer.  Continue with capecitabine and lapatinib. 

May 2015
CT scan revealed some improvement in liver and stable disease in lungs.  Continue with capecitabine and lapatinib. 

August 2015
CT scan revealed growth in lung mets.  Cease capecitbine and lapatinib and start eribulin. 

November 2015
CT scan revealed no change in cancer.  Continue with chemo (Eribulin).  

January 2016
CT scan revealed no change in cancer.  However, as by now I'd had a lot of chemo (54 cycles since diagnosis), the oncologist decided that I should have a break from chemo.  Due to start an hormonal treatment, exemestane, in February 2016.  

May 2016
CT scan revealed growth in lung mets.  Being referred to the Christie (specialist hospital in Manchester) to see if any clinical trials available.

June 2016
Started on clinical trial, SYD985, at the Christie.  

August 2016
CT scan showed no change in cancer.  Continue on trial chemo SYD985.  

September 2016
CT scan showed no change in cancer.  Continue on trial chemo SYD985.  

Early Nov 2016
CT scan showed no change in cancer.  Continue on trial chemo SYD985.  

December 2016
CT scan showed slight shrinkage in cancer.  Continue on trial chemo SYD985.  

January/February 2017
Admiited to hospital for a week due to breathing problems.  Taken off trial.

March 2017
Breathing problems persist.  On oxygen quite frequently.  Oncologist said I was very poorly and that any further chemo would shorten my life.  Started anastrozle.
